1. Sedlec Ossuary - Czech Republic & Capelados Ossos – Portugal
In an alternate universe where everything creepy is normal, the world is full of skeletons and humans (freaky ones) who walk around the skeleton paradise smiling. In fact this doesn’t just happen in alternate worlds; rather you can very well find it here on earth in the following two Roman Catholic churches. At the Sedlec Ossuary in Czech, skeletons < </script>decorate the church; this church also features a bone chandelier beautifully dominating the small interior of the church. Likewise, the Capelados Ossos, located in the picturesque town of Evora in Portugal, also features human remains in plain sight. Capelados Essos hosts two rotten corpses of a young child and an unknown man dangling from nooses and a thousand other human bones.
2. Akodessewa Fetish Market – Togo
Akodossewa market is the world’s voodoo capital. In the market, you will find bones, skeletons, heads of crocodiles, cobras, chimpanzees and other things (from animal parts) laying in the open like apples in a farmers market. Sellers and buyers believe that by crashing the bones or different animal parts on sale and boiling them creates ingredients for medicines that can treat any ailment under the sun. 3. Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital – South Korea
At the turn of the millennium, psych patients at the Goniiam Psychiatric Hospital started dying mysteriously, leading to the eventual closure of the facility. Today, the former hospital is an abandoned, dirty building with scattered remnants of the belongings of its former inhabitants. A visit to this abandoned facility is likely be just like taking a tour into your favorite movie. In fact, the facility is listed as one of the creepiest haunted houses in South Korea.
4. Catacomb of Mummies - Italy
Once upon a time, monks in Italy decided to mummify one of their fallen brothers, as there was no space in the cemetery, thus creating a practice that quickly spread among the wealthy as a sign of prestige. In fact, some of the folks left wills <with instructions for their kin to change their clothes every few years. Today, mummies line the walls of the Catacomb with some taking up different positions. At the bottom of Mt. Fuji in Japan lies Aokigahara (the Sea of Trees), a forest more renown for its ability to take lives than for its natural magnificence. Annually, volunteers follow unofficial trails looking for human remains; over the years, they have found human remains a few years old. They believe that there are more bodies lying in the dense forest that remains inaccessible.
