It's always sunny in Philadelphia, but this summer the city has a lot more to offer than just beautiful weather. Whether you're looking for a quick getaway or a longer escape, the City of Brotherly Love will host a ton of only-in-Philly exhibits and experiences this summer.
One of the best aquariums in the United States according to the Travel Channel, and the only one with a hammerhead shark, Adventure Aquarium is the perfect place to celebrate Shark Week. Walk through the Shark Tunnel to surround yourself with the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast. Also check out the 17,000-gallon pool on Penguin Island, home to a flock of frolicking African Penguins.

If you're an art aficionado, browse The Barnes Foundation and its grand collection of modern, impressionist, and post-impressionist art—more than 3,000 masterpieces. Featured blockbuster artists include Picasso, Renoir and Monet, as well as African sculptures and Native American jewelry.

Was the man who single-handedly conquered half of the known world a ruthless warrior or revered statesman? The Franklin Institute helps you uncover the amazing story of one of the world's greatest leaders and most misunderstood conquerors in the exhibit, Genghis Khan: Bring the Legend to Life, running through January 3. Discover Khan's lasting influence and the many customs, rituals, and inventions introduced to the west as a result of his invasion, and see over 200 historical treasures from ancient Mongolia including weapons, jewels, monuments, and documents up to 1,000 years old.

Keeping with the museum's interactive reflections on how American Jews both shaped and were shaped by the American experience, the "Richard Avedon: Family Affairs" exhibit showcases works by Avedon, one of the 20th century's most prominent photographers who spent much of his career photographing for Rolling Stone and Vogue. The first is a sequence of four portrait murals inspired by the revolutionary feel of the '60s and early '70s. The second is a series of 69 striking portraits of the country's political, media, and corporate elite on the eve of the 1976 presidential election.

In the mood for an eccentric opera and a fresh spin on a traditional show? This forward-thinking and groundbreaking group of artists offers rousing new performance methods sure to entertain. This summer features the world premiere of "Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD," an inspired exploration into the life and music of one of the jazz's greats.

The exhibition traces the growth of the impressionist movement through the Durand-Ruel Gallery, where the visionary art dealer motivated and supported renowned artists such as Monet, Manet, Renoir, and many others.
